Visual Music
A major creative breakthrough occurred after I moved to Arizona: I knew I needed the space that is Arizona even though I enjoyed Michigan for many years. This physical space opened the way for me to see deeper within myself and also become aware that all is energy. It is the lyrical beauty of this unseen part of our Universe that I am now exploring. Each painting is an investigation into aspects of limitless space, energies coalescing into shapes and lines, visual music.
I use color and composition to express what cannot be spoken with words. They embody the music, harmony, and mystery of the Universe, the underlying energy of our world, the music of being within all things, a dichotomy of the spiritual and the physical.
For me, shapes and lines symbolize life energy flowing through space, at times abstract, other times, recognizable objects. Thus subjects such as figures or stones come into being from pure abstraction. I use the circle as a centering device as it is complete and whole, a stopping place which draws one into other dimensions, powerful and energizing. The circle’s stability allows for tension, engages us in relationships between stasis and movement.
